Ski insurance: the essential cover for your holidays

When booking your equipment online with Ekosport-Rent, at some point, a window will appear offering you ski insurance. What exactly is it? What risks are covered? And is it really worth subscribing to? Here is all the essential information about ski insurance and the very simple procedure for adding it to your rental!

Why subscribe to ski insurance when renting equipment?

As with most optional insurance, the same question arises: why pay extra for something I probably won’t need? But it’s when you really need it that you regret not subscribing. This is also true with ski insurance, as you are unfortunately not immune to having your rented equipment stolen on the slopes or in your holiday accommodation, having to suddenly cancel your trip, or even shortening your holiday... And in such situations, it can be costly if you're not insured.

Additionally, subscribing to Ekosport-Rent ski insurance won’t break the bank: it will cost you €2 per day per rented item for an adult and €1.50 for a child.
In other words, if you come to the mountains for a week with your family, with 2 adult and 2 children's items, you’ll only need to pay an additional €42 in total: a very reasonable price for a more stress-free winter holiday!

What are the guarantees of Ekosport-Rent ski insurance?

Before subscribing, you probably want to know what guarantees are included in the insurance contract. They fall into three categories:

  • Theft and damage to equipment, with the insurance covering the cost of replacement or repair.
  • Trip cancellation: cancellation fees are refunded if you cancel before the first day of rental.
  • Trip interruption: if you need to shorten your stay (for reasons not excluded by the contract), the insurance reimburses unused rental days and unused services (pro rata).

This coverage allows you to insure yourself against the major risks directly related to your ski reservation. For full details of what is covered, exclusions, maximum reimbursement amounts, and deductibles, you can view the insurance contract.

How to insure when booking online?

Subscribing to our ski insurance is as simple as can be, as it is offered at the same time as the online booking. All you have to do is tick the corresponding box for each rented item: quick and easy!
The insurance amount is then added to the total payment for your equipment reservation. You can then pay for your rental fully or partially online with flexible payment options, using a credit card (Visa or Mastercard), PayPal, or ANCV vouchers.
You will then automatically be insured for the entire duration of your rental. In case of a claim, you will need to contact the insurer immediately and provide all necessary documents for processing.

What about the ski insurance offered with lift passes?

In addition to the guarantees offered by the equipment rental insurance, you can subscribe to another type of insurance during your mountain holiday. This is the coverage offered with your ski pass, which may include the following guarantees:

  • Coverage of rescue costs in the event of an accident on the ski slopes (off-piste usually not covered);
  • Coverage of medical and hospitalisation costs;
  • Reimbursement of your holiday accommodation cancellation fees;
  • Reimbursement of unused lift pass days following an accident;
  • Reimbursement of unused ski lessons after an accident;
  • Repatriation of the insured person, or even the entire family;
  • Pro-rata reimbursement of the pass in case of ski lift closure due to lack of snow or poor weather conditions, etc.

The events covered vary from resort to resort, and there may be several options available. So, take the time to compare contracts before subscribing. Also, check any potential guarantees provided by your credit card, civil liability, home insurance, and your personal accident insurance to avoid duplicates.
